はぁ…今日は全く進みませんでいた{/汗/}{/汗/}{/汗/}今までの最低記録です。別にむずかしいところでもなく、振り替えレッスンを１コマ受講したにもかかわらず{/！！/}
原因は明らかで、一昨日の新幹線遅延による疲れをまだ色濃く残しており、眠いし腰も痛いし…ということで昼過ぎまで{/目/}お昼寝をしてしまったせいで、予習ができていなかった{/悲しい/}という次第。
今日はメイン②先生で2コマ受講したのち、メイン①先生で2コマ受講したのですが、後半はDMEについてのフリートークになってしまいました。先生もDMEを教え始めたばかりということもあって、DMEについてどんな問題を感じているのか？ということを訊かれたので、前にトライアル期間中に私自身の問題意識を明確に示すために書いた、Esseyを見ていただきました。先生が間違いを直して下さったので、全文をアップします。
To continue DME or Not, that is the matter
In a lot of online ESL for Japanese, Direct Method for English (DME) is becoming a new main stream and a big new wave, today. Some of the students try to master hard, so some students try to memorize ALL of the questions and answers, the others try to repeat again and again, very passionate. Someone like me, has blog and record his/her lesson and achievements, and encourage each other. For DME students, Patience, Earnestness, Intensity and Zeal in are the most of essential for DME mastery..
As a one of those students, I have been studying DME about one year. I used to listen to MP3 two to five times for study preparation and read once or twice, sometimes shadowing it, but now I read or listen just once or twice, before the lesson. Because I suspect the outcome of DME.
Now, I can answer quickly and automatically to teachers’ questions based on retention or my original idea-because of I can think in English with my back-ground, which I was grown in a department of Japanese in international kindergarten, and my father recommends to think and understand direct way of understanding of English-
Most of my concerns and question are---Is there a huge gap between students knowledge or understanding and their answering skill by retention? There are some critical opinions of ESL teachers to Callan Method, the most impressive for me is“We can teach playing piano to monkey, but the difference between human-being and monkey is to play the piano with thinking or describing one’s original idea or thought”
Today, one of my online teachers asked me how I could memorize long question of DME, but I didn’t do so, just I try to answer the question, but---is it only by retention or not?
I felt there is a gap when I can answer and I can use it in natural conversation, so I suspect the outcome or result of DME. I agree DME is effective for beginner or low stage to improve listening skill, to make way of understanding directly in English. But for me, Is it productive? I think above Stage9 of DME include a wide range vocabulary, but some of them are not useful in usual conversation.
I understand my weaknesses are grammar, sentence structure and vocabulary, additionally I’d like to get high points in IELTS. Nevertheless, should I continue DME? That is the matter…..
ちなみにメイン①先生はテキストアンサーではなくても比較的？OKみたい…きちんとQuestionに沿って長文と正しいSentence Structureで答えられればよいとのことでした。日本人にとって答えられないだろう質問は先生に答えを聞いてから答えてもよいとのこと。あと40日だけ別のスクールでお世話になったら、iTalkでDMEを再開することを考えても良いかも？と思いました。いずれにしてもGrammarが終わってから…とは思いますが、またまた悩みが増えますね{/嬉しい/}
明日はもう少し予習をしないとダメだと痛感しました。Grammar in Useでは予習をどれだけきちんとするか？ということが要だと思っています。
それから今日は東京オフィスから
